Everyone agrees that moving out is a costly affair. This is because you have to meet the cost of transporting your things from the old residence to the new home. And that’s not all there is to do. You also need to change your home address so that you can continue receiving letters after settling in the new residence. As a matter of fact, planning to move out when you are broke can be hectic. This is due to the fact that you don’t have enough money to cater for all the logistics involved. In fact, such moves happen due to unavoidable circumstances such as divorce or a transfer that’s initiated by the employer without consulting you. Regardless of your situation, you can still move out without having to borrow a soft loan from the bank. Here are tips that can help you relocate to a new neighborhood without hurting your pockets.

  1. Hire Low Cost Moving Company

Even if you are broke like a church mouse, it’s still recommended you seek the assistance of a moving company.  This is because allowing them to transport your things relieves you from the stress of having to carry the items on your own. For the sake of setting the record straight, carrying heavy loads is not for the faint hearted. Unless you have people to give you a hand, you can end up straining your back especially if the things will have to go through a staircase. Moving companies are usually equipped with the best tools which in return makes their job much easier. Since there are many moving companies, you should compare their prices and settle for the one that charges an affordable rate such.

  1. Avoid Buying Packing Boxes

Packing boxes come in handy when you want to move out. This is because you can label them to ensure that the items are handled with proper care and they are put where they belong after arriving at the new home. Instead of spending money on buying such boxes you should consider getting as many as you can from your workplace. Alternatively, you can borrow from friends that have moved in recently. You can even go for a walk in the neighborhood a few days in advance and pick boxes that have been disposed by other homeowners. A box that was used to pack a fridge from a store can accommodate very many things especially the items that are not bulky. Since you may not afford to buy new boxes, you can also rent them from your local convenience store.

  1. Sell Stuff that you don’t Use

There is no point of moving with the items that you rarely use. Such stuff only makes your baggage to look congested and bulky. They also compete for space with the things that matter the most and make your house look disorganized. Instead of disposing them in the garbage bin, it’s advisable you sell them on EBay or to people who do garage sales. This will earn you some money that you can use to pay for some of the bills. Even if it’s not a lot, it can still buy you a few food supplies or a meal at a restaurant.

  1. Pack the Items on your Own

Packing your things is one of the surest ways of cutting back on the cost of moving out. This is because the moving company will not be able to charge you extra money for packing your items. The advantage of packing the things on your own is that you can do it at your own pace. You can actually start packing a few days in advance. In fact, you should start with the small things and then proceed to the bigger items. The other advantage is that you will minimize instances of forgetting to pack some things. You will even put some of the essential items in a separate bag.

5. Clean, Organize and Dispose

Every moving is the perfect opportunity to throw away things that are no longer used.
