Some outings come with a little adrenaline before you even set foot in the park.

If you’ve been following Mamá XXI for a while, you probably know that Six Flags Great Adventure is one of those places that has become part of our family adventures. But this visit was different: we were invited to the opening night of the DC™ Heroes & Villains Fest, a special evening experience that gave us the chance to explore the park until closing.

And, as often happens with our adventures, the journey itself had a story.

On the way there, we drove straight into one of those intense storms that makes you wonder if leaving the house was actually a good idea. 😂

And then, just as we arrived at the park, the storm stopped.

The sky cleared, the evening turned beautiful, and the adventure began.

Exploring Shoreline Pier — and My BATMAN Debut

With the weather finally on our side, we headed first to Shoreline Pier at The Boardwalk, the new area that debuted this season.

The area was completely reimagined for 2026, bringing together new attractions, games and food with the nostalgic feeling of a classic New Jersey boardwalk. It manages to feel familiar and brand new at the same time.

But when it comes to personal challenges, I have to confess something:

I finally rode BATMAN™ The Ride.

Yes. The roller coaster where you are literally suspended beneath the track, feet in the air, while the ride takes you through intense twists and turns.

Want the honest version?

It’s intense. Very intense. 😂

It shakes you, flips you around and makes you question every decision you made five minutes earlier.

But once the adrenaline settles and you realize you survived, there is this wonderful little feeling of:

I did it!

And maybe that’s why I enjoyed it so much.

Sometimes we spend so much time wondering whether we can do something that we forget what a little courage can accomplish.

A Night Inside the DC Universe

The main experience of our visit was the DC™ Heroes & Villains Fest, which takes place on select nights through August 30.

After dark, Six Flags transforms part of the park into a DC universe where heroes and villains appear throughout the experience.

Batman, Robin, Superman and Wonder Woman face off against The Joker, Harley Quinn and Catwoman, while guests become part of the action.

And yes, we got to see many of our favorites.

Batman. Robin. Superman. Wonder Woman. The Joker. Harley Quinn. Catwoman.

There is also special entertainment, music and themed activities throughout the evening.

Walking through the park after dark while these characters appear around you makes the entire experience feel completely different.

It’s not simply about seeing the characters.

It’s almost as if Six Flags decided to turn the entire park into a movie.

And, Of Course, There Was Food

The festival also features a special menu inspired by the heroes and villains.

This season’s offerings include the SUPERMAN™ Burger, The Luxe Lex Chicken Sandwich, HARLEY QUINN™ Tenders, BATGIRL™ Tenders and themed funnel cakes.

There are also specialty drinks, including non-alcoholic options and cocktails inspired by the characters.

Because, let’s be honest, after walking around the park, riding roller coasters and chasing superheroes and villains, you also need to eat. 😂

There Is Even More Happening at Great Adventure

One of the things that surprised me most about this season is how much is happening at Great Adventure beyond the DC festival.

Shoreline Pier is one of the major additions for 2026, while the park is already preparing guests for what comes next.

And there is one new coaster that is already getting plenty of attention:

Bakunawa Is Coming in 2027

Great Adventure’s next major roller coaster is Bakunawa, and it is going to be huge.

The park describes it as the world’s tallest and fastest spinning launch coaster. It will rise 382 feet and reach speeds of up to 100 mph when it opens in 2027.

In fact, the Bakunawa campaign has already moved beyond the park itself and into the streets of Philadelphia and New York City, bringing the giant serpent to some of the region’s busiest urban areas.

So if you’ve recently seen a mysterious giant serpent appearing around Philadelphia…

Now you know what it’s about. 😉

And There Are Babies at Wild Safari! 🥹

As if Great Adventure didn’t already have enough reasons to visit, there was another piece of news I couldn’t leave out.

More than 30 baby rheas were born recently at Six Flags Wild Safari.

Rheas are large flightless birds native to South America and related to ostriches and emus. Adults can grow to nearly five feet tall, but these newest members of the Safari family are still fluffy little chicks exploring their habitat alongside their parents.

Wild Safari is home to more than 1,200 animals representing species from around the world, and daily operations continue through September 7.

So if you’re planning a visit before the summer season wraps up, you can add a completely different kind of adventure to your day.

And yes, now I want to go back just to see the baby rheas. 😂

Coming Back to Six Flags Is Part of Our Story Too

One of the things I enjoy most about these visits is that they never feel exactly the same.

Kids grow.

Rides change.

New areas appear.

And suddenly, a mom who spent years watching roller coasters from the ground is hanging upside down on BATMAN™ wondering exactly when she made that decision.

😂

But that’s part of the fun.

Sharing these experiences with family and friends gives us memories that eventually become stories.

This time we had a storm on the way, clear skies when we arrived, a brand-new area of the park, superheroes, villains, themed food and my own little challenge with Batman.

Not a bad night.
