In fact, there are aromas that become part of one’s biography, and for me, coffee is one of them. I remember walking through the cold streets of New York, always holding a small cup of coffee between my hands. Consequently, that portable fire kept me company, serving as a talisman against the winter and a way to hold calm amid the noise. Therefore, in every city I visited, I searched for the best latte in town—the flavor that revealed something of its people, its climate, and its soul.


Aromas, the magic of details

Behind every cup hides a memory, a gesture, or an emotion.
In that small café, I discovered the magic of detail: the sound of milk beginning to sing, the steam tracing invisible shapes, the look in someone’s eyes when they receive their cup and feel that someone took time for them.
I learned that serving coffee is also a way of caring.

Over time, the art of preparing lattes, mochas, and cappuccinos became a dance of fire, aroma, and silence. Today, watching my daughter continue that legacy fills me with tenderness.

Cacao —the ancestral drink of connection and creation— joins coffee here to invoke calm, presence, and gratitude. On the table, marigold petals surround the cup like little suns reminding us of the sacredness in every moment.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk or plant-based drink (oat, almond, or coconut)
  • 1 tbsp pure unsweetened cacao powder
  • 1 tsp honey or agave syrup
  • A pinch of cinnamon and another of mild chili or ginger
  • 1 shot espresso or 60–80 ml strong coffee (Café Mexicano Oaxaca Reserve recommended)
  • Cempasúchil (Mexican marigold) flowers to decorate the table (not for consumption)

How to preapre our cup of Cacao Latte

  1. Begin by warming the milk slowly over low heat, breathing in the aroma.
  2. Next, add cacao, honey, and spices, stirring gently with a wooden spoon.
  3. Finally, pour in the coffee and let the colors merge like a slow dance.
  4. Serve in a warm cup. Decorate the table with marigold petals — guardians of the home fire.

Ingredients Method

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup milk or plant-based milk (oat, almond, or coconut)
  • 1 tbsp (7–10 g) pure unsweetened cacao powder
  • 1 tsp (5 ml) honey or agave syrup, to taste
  • 1 pinch cinnamon
  • 1 shot hot espresso or 60–80 ml strong coffee (recommended: Café Mexicano Oaxaca Reserve)
For the ritual (non-edible):
  • Mexican marigold (cempasúchil) flowers to decorate the table and accompany your intention

Method
 

  1. Prepare your ritual space.Set your cup, light a candle if you wish, and place marigold flowers beside you (not in the drink). Take three deep breaths.
    Warm the milk.In a small saucepan over low heat, warm the milk until it steams but does not boil.
    Incorporate the cacao.Add cacao, honey or agave, cinnamon, and chili or ginger. Stir gently with a wooden spoon until smooth and silky.
    Add the coffee.Pour in the espresso or strong coffee and stir again. If you have a milk frother, aerate for 5–10 seconds for a creamy texture.
    Serve and consecrate.Pour into your cup, surround it with marigold petals on the table, and take the first sip in silence, giving thanks for something specific from this day.
    Notes:
    Sweetness: Adjust to taste. For a sugar-free version, use a few drops of stevia.
    Caffeine-free: Replace coffee with roasted dandelion root or chicory.
    More spice: Add a pinch of cardamom or nutmeg.
    Extra creamy texture: Blend in 1 tsp coconut butter or ½ tsp ghee (if using dairy).
    Vegan: Use plant-based milk and agave or blended dates.
    Cacao quality: Choose pure cacao, minimum 70%, ideally fair trade.
